Intro to the mound

Well here it is the first post in the stinkin mound blogspot. For those who are visitors to this site, the R family when growing up spent hours of slave labor working on a desolate uninhabited piece of terra firma called the mound. Our drive way was just over an 1/8 of a mile long and culminated in a gravel culdesac in the center of the culdesac Grandma R wanted to put a flower garden with a waterfall, and other asthetically pleasing acroutements including rocks pilfered from various roadsides throughout the US, a varying assortment of bushes, dead tree stumps, rotten whiskey barrells, and a rusted out corn planter built in the late 1800's (about the same time Grandma R was born :) The mound has been a thorn in the side but also an icon to our family representing trials that bring us together and make us stronger despite the pain that is often times associated with these trials. So sit back and enjoy the reading.......

B & H The Mound Edition 8 Oct 2005

We sure enjoyed seeing all of you this past month or so. We, like the rest of you, wish that some of the circumstances had been happier, but like M said, “We get together for weddings and funerals, and we are out of weddings” so something had to get us together. That Wednesday of Grandma H’s funeral was one of the best days B and I can remember spending with you. We had a great time playing baseball, jumping on the trampoline, riding motorbikes, eating Popsicles as the sticky juice ran down to our elbows, and just visiting. All the way home we talked about what a magical day it had been. At the time we didn’t realize that this would be our last memory on earth with our K, but we refuse to give into too much sorrow knowing that it is FAR from our last memory with him because we plan to be with him – and all of you FOREVER! We too have been compelled to greater familial love and appreciation and we try to say, (and mean) “I love you” with more frequency. We also step back more often and look at the Big Picture until we see our sorrow swept away in seeing our lost loved ones again. Thank Heaven’s for Eternal Perspective! As for the daily entertainment, T and M are both School Boys. Their teachers were both hired the DAY BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED! Talk about stress! They have done a great job and our boys love school (even though they get up like their mother in the morning!) C and E and Mom watch “The Price is Right” together every morning (now that we purchased our local channels for $9.95/month!) It is our favorite time of day (well, mine at least – what could be more fun than being buried by a cute-girl-pile?) B is busier than ever with two Optometry practices. He took over the lease at the Pocatello Wal*Mart (there may be a smile on every isle, but not on any of the customers!) and he still has the Idaho Falls Sam’s Club, so he is contracted to work 10 days a week. Luckily we have hired two Doctors to help meet those requirements. B is also the First Counselor in the Elder’s Quorum Presidency. We are glad when he gets to be home with us and we try to make every second count (another lesson we have learned this summer). I don’t do any of the Pre-school or play group things with the neighborhood girls (or girls in the hood as we called them in Philly) because I love having my own kids around me, and playing with them. I do a show a few times a week called “Mom’s Cooking Show” but the audience is only local so far (you know, T, M, C, E). I am T’s Primary Teacher at church, which officially ends any adult interaction I used to get for two hours a week, but since I’m not really an “adult” I guess it’s not too big of a loss. Well, we pray for you all, for your safety and happiness and peace. When K and L flew down to say goodbye to Grandma H, Uncle K took the time to play football with T and made his life. Now we are looking forward to paying a little of that back if L and N and K decide to move to our neck of the woods. We also are hoping to make those kinds of decisions so that when we end our journeys here we will be remembered like we all do our K and Grandma H. We love you! Don’t forget!
